In 2008, Eaton’s Vehicle Group made a lasting commitment to India with the completion of a new state of art manufacturing facility – a Greenfield project – at Ranjangaon near Pune to manufacture and supply medium- and heavy-duty truck transmission and components for the Indian and export markets.
In the same year, Eaton also acquired the engine valves business of Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. and integrated two valve manufacturing plants at Ahmednagar and Nashik. This marked the entry of Eaton’s automotive business into India.
The Nashik plant is spread over 12 acres and 4500 sq. m of manufacturing space whereas the Ahmednagar plant is spread over 80,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing area. Both plants specialize in manufacturing engine valves for passenger cars, locomotives, and commercial vehicle markets. The manufacturing includes all in-house operations from forging to finishing.
The Ranjangaon plant is spread over spread over 60,000 sq. ft. and houses machining, heat-treating and assembly operations. The facility today also includes an integrated Test Lab providing strong capability to conduct hardware tests to validate current and future designs for both global and regional products.
Products for Automotive Markets
Eaton forayed into the Indian automotive market with engine valves and it still remains the primary focus area. Eaton also has business for torque control products which are directly imported from the company’s Korea plant. The valve business is strategically spread across various segments such as passenger cars, commercial vehicles, off highway and railways.
In addition, Eaton in India has also introduced new offerings such as Superchargers and products for Valve Actuation, Torque Control, Fluid Conveyance, and more.
